This was the first trip that Bruce and I ever took together. We decided to go for a weekend and Kennebunkeport is not that far away. It took us about four hours to drive there.
We stayed in a Bed and Breakfast on the Main Street in town. There were shops, mostly touristy knick knacks and souvenirs. We took a side trip to see a nearby lighthouse. Goat Island Lighthouse was not open to the public, so we had to view it from a distance.
One evening we got dressed up and went to dinner at the White Barn Inn. It was a very memorable experience. I had never heard of the place before, (according to Bruce the Bush family frequents the place) but it has a reputation for being exceptional. I would have to agree. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced before.
Besides being our first trip together, it started a tradition of traveling somewhere on Memorial Day. This happens to be one of the few traditions from childhood that I would like to continue. When I was young we always traveled from Springfield to Bolivar on Memorial Day to visit relatives.
