Time log of 1995 trip to New York City
This was my first real trip outside of Missouri, so it had a real impact on me. A friend and I packed a lot in during that month.
Saturday, July 1—Finished getting ready and packing
Sunday, July 2—Arrived at Laguardia airport, took taxi to 619 E. 5th Street, Apt. 20 to meet Jennifer
Monday, July 3—Took walk around streets; Chinatown and Soho
Tuesday, July 4—Saw fireworks at the East River
Wednesday, July 5—We met a former professor, Dr. Patricia Brown, for dinner at her summer apartment in the City
Thursday, July 6—Went to a reading at Central Park by Miss Coco Peru, Anna Quindlen, and Luey Grealey
Friday, July 7—Went to NYC Public Library, and decided to watch classic movies whenever we do not have anything else to do; borrowed Ben Hur and spent the evening watching the film
Saturday, July 8—Saw Africa Fete in Central Park
Sunday, July 9—Went to a “They Might Be Giants” concert in Brooklyn
Monday, July 10—Saw black and white film called Laura on screen set up in Bryant Park
Tuesday, July 11—Borrowed and watched the movie Secret Garden
Wednesday, July 12—Borrowed and watched the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Thursday, July 13—Dinner with Dr. Brown followed by a reading in Central Park by Bill T. Jones and June Jordan
Friday, July 14—Borrowed and watched the movie Much Ado About Nothing
Saturday, July 15—Spent the day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Cloisters
Sunday, July 16—Took a ferry to Staten Island and saw the Statue of Liberty
Monday, July 17—Saw black and white film “Born Yesterday” on screen in Bryant Park
Tuesday, July 18—Stood in line for five or six hours for Tempest tickets with John Luke Picard, but tickets sold out before we made it to the front of the line
Wednesday, July 19—Saw New York Grand opera perform Verdi’s opera I Duo Fascari
Thursday, July 20—Went to St. John the Divine’s Cathedral followed by a reading in Central Park by Paul Auster and Art Spiegelman
Friday, July 21—Borrowed and watched the movie Under a Sheltering Sky
Saturday, July 22—Science lab; Michael Hale concert; visiting Empire State Building
Sunday, July 23—Jennifer’s birthday party
Monday, July 24—Saw the film Uno on the screen in Bryant Park
Tuesday, July 25—Went downtown to see a French film called Life and Times of Artraud Antonin; walked through Soho, Little Italy, and China Town
Wednesday, July 26—Visited Coney Island; went to Nuyurecan Poet’s Café
Thursday, July 27—Tried to see Patti Smith with Dr. Brown, but missed her; borrowed and watched the film Amadeus
Friday, July 28—Went to Rockaway Beach for the day
Saturday, July 29—Spent the day alone; walked through different neighborhoods; did some writing; watched classical Twilight Zone marathon
Sunday, July 30—Went to Central Park for Celtic fiddle playing concert
Sunday, July 31—Took flight back to Missouri; arrived at home
